On the 25 August 2024 the first Nature & Nurture Festival - Youth Takeover Day was held at RHS Wisley in Surrey.

It was organised by an amazing group of young people. A festival of workshops, talks and DJ sets responding to the themes of wellbeing, ecology and the environment.

The talks started with a discussion with members of the Young People in Horticulture Association about youth opinions around the themes of wellbeing and horticulture.

Next up was gardener and artist Sid Hill who talked about The Microbiome Garden: Linking Health, Diet and Our Gardens. An enlightening talk on the vital links between the health of the land and our own microbiomes. Quite a bit of overlap with nutrition which was great to hear.

The topic of my talk was Connecting with Nature Through Food and I talked about seasonal eating, growing your own food, foraging and food waste.

The day was finished by Tone Tellefsen-Hughes of the Green Hub Project for Teens, a charity I happen to be a volunteer for.
How can nature be beneficial for our health and how can we bring nature into our daily lives?

A great day in a wonderful location.
